Critical Band at the Music Gallery

As part of the X Avant festival at the Music Gallery, I wrote a new work and brought back Critical Band, a group I lead a couple of decades ago. The festival was dedicated to previous artist directors and as such was asked to curate one set. Critical Band was a group that performed microtonal new music and I thought it would be a great time to recall those times. I wrote a piece in E just intonation, using a new microtonal classical guitar with moveable frets, an electric refretted to 31 tone, 4 limit just intonation and another electric with temporary frets to do an 11 limit, U tonal, O tonal version of just intonation. With Christine Duncan on voice, Ben Grossman on hurdy gurdy, Amahl Arulanandam on cello and Deb Sinha on percussion we performed a new, 45 minute long piece.
